DIGITALS

Digitals show your current natural look to your agency and potential clients. These are typically requested for every job and need to be updated often and delivered quickly. They are snapshots of your silhouette and face taken at multiple angles - front facing and side profiles. We call them model mug shots because it can feel like taking mug shots! Your agents will typically take your digitals when visiting the office. It's essential that you learn how to take your own digitals! If you haven't already taken your own digitals, you must take them and send them to us using Dropbox within 2 weeks of signing. We will help refine them with you. They can be taken on the phone, against a white/neutral wall - 1 full body, 1 torso, 1 closeup, 1 side profile - groomed facial for men, and no glam, makeup, and hair off the face for women. Here’s a quick digital guide.

Bring your model bag to your digital appointment and agency visits. You will be asked to wear tight fitting clothes like skinny jeans and a tank top to show your silhouette. Please be sure to arrive properly groomed and keep your hair length and styled maintained unless discussed otherwise with your agency. Example below:

MEASUREMENTS

Know your measurements and learn how to measure yourself (see chart below). Clients are not forgiving when measurements are wrong, sometimes leading to a job cancellation.

Women: Bust — Waist — Hip
Men: Chest — Waist — Inleg (also called inseam)

CASTINGS & JOBS ETIQUETTE

It is important that you maintain the highest level of professionalism when interacting with clients or potential clients. This includes all personnel on set at confirmed jobs or at castings.

Client-facing protocols include:

  • NEVER SIGN ANY CONTRACTS OR RELEASES WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR AGENCY OR BOOKER FIRST.

  • They are looking to rehire talent that were a delight and ease to work with.

  • Unless it’s necessary, please refrain from being on your phone or social media during time on set.

  • Use appropriate language and be mindful of your volume as to not be disruptive to the production team and other models.

  • Absolutely no drugs, alcohol, or any kind of smoking (cigarettes, cap, etc.) on set.

  • Do not bring friends, family, or pets to set unless first approved by your agency and the client.

  • Never discuss rates, bookings, or sensitive information on set or when attending castings.

EMAIL

Your booking agents primarily use email to communicate with you. It's important to have notifications on and to regularly check your emails for job and other important information. You need to download the Gmail App, do not use the email app automatically downloaded on your iPhone. You must respond within 24 hours or you risk losing out on the opportunity presented. Make sure to always “reply all” and double check that both Tia and Adrien are CC'ed in your emails at all times. Please reach out if you are new to emailing, we would be more than happy to go over the basics with you.

SIGNING WITH A BOOKING AGENCY

As mentioned, HR does not book you on jobs we are responsible for signing you with the right booking agencies that align with you the best. There are thousands of agencies out there and we have connections with the most ethical, official, and reliable agencies to exist. You must have a proper portfolio and solid foundation of knowledge before you can sign with a booking agent. You can trust that the agencies we place/sign you with will take care of you. This is not the case for a lot of agencies out there as there are a lot of scams and dangerous agencies out there if you are not careful. DO NOT SELF SUBMIT YOURSELF TO ANY AGENCY.

BOOKING A JOB

When you are in the process of booking a job your booking agents will email you all the information available at the time. They will present possible shoot dates and will ask you if you are available (most times they assume you are available if you do not book-out dates ahead of time). This is the time to research the client, check your calendar, and decide whether you want to do the job. You must reply all and let them know you are available within 24 hours of receiving the email. They may request fresh digitals, selfies, and/or videos that must be done within 24 hours or you risk losing the opportunity. At this time you are on “option” which means you are not confirmed nor have booked the job yet but the client is highly interested in booking you. You must keep the proposed date available once you are put on option. You will receive another email if you are confirmed for the job. DO NOT book travel if you do not see the confirmation email - always ask the HR team for clarity. Please make sure to CC Adrien and Tia in all emails even if your booking agent(s) forget.

When your booking agent emails you, always respond so they know you've received their email.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS

As you develop and sign with booking agencies, you will be expected to travel to bigger markets for bookings. Most times, you will be responsible for coordinating and booking your own travel and accommodations.

When you book a job you need to be in town the night before and will leave the morning after the last day of the booking. For example if you were confirmed for January 12th - 15th in LA you would need to coordinate accommodations for January 11th - 16th. You would also book your arrival flights for January 11th and you're returning flight back home on the 16th. Keep in mind most hotel/airbnb check-in times are 4PM and checkout is usually 10AM. If you are under 18, a chaperone is required to go with you and most hotels require 18+ to check in. If you need help paying for your travel, you can have your booking agency advance your travel.

If you are driving: You must drive into the city the night prior. If you for some reason cannot arrive the day before your booking, you MUST leave 3-4 hours earlier than your initial start time to account for traffic and the unexpected. You must let HR know that you cannot be there the day prior. Big cities, especially LA, are infamous for extreme traffic and it WILL take longer than your GPS is telling you.

Please confirm all travel and accommodations plans with HR before purchasing.

TESTING / TEST PHOTO SHOOTS

Model testing serves as a valuable opportunity for models to collaborate with industry professionals, experiment with different styles and concepts, and expand their portfolios with high-quality images that showcase their potential and versatility. These photoshoots are where you hone your modeling skills and learn your movement, flow of the business, and how to interact with working artists. These test shoots are typically paid for by the model to create elevated imagery for your book. You are required to pay for a test shoot within two months of signing. Your model portfolio is what attracts bookings/opportunities. We can only take you as far as how good your portfolio is so it’s extremely important you invest in your portfolio. We will provide mood boards, styling guides, and photographer options for each of your tests. HR must select the final images, you cannot select the final images as we know the type of imagery the industry requires. To sign with a booking agent, it typically requires 3 solid paid tests to get the proper portfolio. Note: Once you change your appearance/look you will need to restart your portfolio. Free/TFP/collaborative testing is usually available but does not typically produce the quality of work needed to market you.

Paid testing is required to receive a certain quality of work for your portfolio. At Hueman Resources, we offer discounted in-house testing ($300/test). Testing opportunities outside of HR’s art department that we have strictly approved and vetted typically cost from $500 - $750 for 2-3 looks.

PHOTOSHOOT ETIQUETTE

  • Confirm details 24 - 48 prior and make sure you've received a call sheet: address, time, contact info, and other important info

  • Ensure there is a stylist, if there is not, communicate with the team on what you should bring along for styling

  • Arrive 15 minutes early, no later, no earlier as you don't want to clutter the scene when production is setting up

  • Exfoliate and groom your body the night before in preparation to be photographed up tight and personal

  • Drink plenty of water prior

  • Be lighthearted and go with the flow. Nobody wants to work with someone who is constantly second guessing the team or causing friction when not necessary. Do not direct the photoshoot, this is not your job.

  • Arrive with zero hair and makeup styling unless specified otherwise

  • No fake lashes, wigs, or fake hair unless requested

  • Nails must be natural or nude and groomed unless otherwise specified

  • Bring your team a snack, they'll remember you for that and maybe give you a few extra perks

  • Get everyone's Instagram prior to leaving and leave a great impression. This is the best way to stay in touch and get rehired.

  • Ask if you can capture behind the scenes content on your phone - some artists are strict about this some are relaxed

  • DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING ON SET. SEND A PICTURE TO YOUR AGENTS OR CALL US.

  • If you ever feel uncomfortable in anyway, ask to use the bathroom and call us immediately.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Your social media presence will be reviewed by clients and agencies moving forward. Please make sure all content posted is PG. A good rule of thumb is you wouldn't post anything you'd be uncomfortable sharing with your grandma! Some models choose to private their current personal account and create a public modeling account. Just keep in mind that your online presence is now a tool for clients to see who you are and your personal vibe beyond the pretty modeling pictures. We encourage posting behind the scenes, daily life, and an inside scoop of who you are. Clients have already seen your model pictures and want to see imagery beyond that. Clients do not want to see an instagram profile of only modeling pictures.

Please make sure to have the @huemanmodels tag in your bio as your “MA” or “Mother Agency”. When signing with booking agencies, make sure to have their company's @ with their market(s) in your bio as well. A great example attached below:

MA: @HuemanModels
LA @Storm_LA
PNW: @HeffnerManagement
NYC: @DNAmodels

If you’re contacted directly regarding modeling inquiries including casting calls, booking inquiries, test shoots, and agency placement via social media please refer them to an HR agent - (adrien@huemanresources.com or tia@huemanresources.com)

Choose a username that is as close to your name as possible or an original nickname. Make a habit of getting the social media handles of the clients and creative teams you work with to help grow your network. It is a great way to keep up to date on the release of your projects. Engage with your audience by liking, commenting, and reposting as much as possible.

Tags/Tagging: Mentions are great for credits but often get lost in notifications and may not always be seen. Tagging specific people attaches your post to their profile and increases your chances to grow your audience. Remember to tag as many individuals as possible - Agency, agent, mother agent, MUA, photographer, client, hair stylist, etc.

APPEARANCE CHANGES

Before you do any sort of appearance changes, we ask that you have a conversation and approval from us prior. When you are a signed model, your look becomes apart of a larger marketing strategy. You and your team have/will spend quite some time marketing and developing your current look. If you change your look in any way, you are starting completely over as if you are a completely new model. If you confirm a job and show up with a different haircut, tattoo, piercing, etc without notifying your team, this could result in penalty fees from the client and leave a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Please make sure to have a conversation with us prior to any appearance changes.

WORKING OUT AND MENTAL HEALTH

When you sign our contract, you agree to strive to be the healthiest version of yourself.

This includes:

  • Regularly working out

  • Maintaining a healthy state of mind

  • Eating nutritionally balanced meals

We have a personal trainer and other helpful resources to aid your health journey, just reach out!

TARDINESS & CANCELLATION POLICY

When confirming your attendance to castings/jobs, this is considered a confirmed bookings and entails a great deal of planning ahead of time (schedule, will you have a ride, traffic, etc.) and requires your committed professionalism.

Casting time slots generally have to be scheduled out, meaning that when models do not show, clients are left waiting and unhappy. This ultimately creates a negative impression and impact that you’re leaving with the client. In instances where you are going to be late or are no longer able to attend your castings, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible (call, text, email, etc.). This will allow us to get in touch with the client immediately, and help keep our (and your) professional relationship positive!

Cancelling or missing a confirmed booking due to miscommunication, poor scheduling, sleeping in, etc. is very likely to result in penalty fees from the client that you will be responsible for - this varies depending on the job. This policy applies to confirmed attendance to all jobs and castings.

AGENCY MEETINGS / VIRTUAL GO-SEES

Once a proper portfolio is curated with your HR team, we will work on submitting you to the proper agencies. We will coordinate Zoom calls with agencies interested in signing you. These meetings are mostly vibe checks as they will already have your measurements, portfolio, and modeling information. They will be digging deeper into your personality, deciding whether you’re a good fit for their clients. Basically “Can you hang with our clients” and “Will our clients have fun with you?”. They are also figuring out whether you have the proper availability to work with them.

IN PERSON ON STAY

Once an agency signs you, they believe they can book you in their market but you must first have the proper portfolio and spend time in that city to establish yourself there. Once signed, you are committing to investing in at least a 2-3 week long stay in the city/market that the agency services within 6 months of signing. This is to establish yourself with the agency, to do in person castings to hopefully gain recurring clients that will fly you back out to that city, and to understand the flow of that specific market (traffic, parking, etc). It is required that you do at least one in person on-stay within 6 months of signing to a new agency. Contact your HR team to help coordinate these trips.

QUESTIONS / NEXT STEPS

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us! We can't wait to see where this industry may take you :) Please text both Adrien & Tia in a group chat the digitals/measurements you have taken (or let us know that you are in the process of taking them) and a picture of your model bag to confirm that you have read and understand the entirety of this model guide. Setup a meeting to discuss your digitals, model bag, look, what testing opportunities are available, and next steps.
